01 October 2024 Scouts Insurance Update: Personal Accident & Medical Cover Now Includes Non-Member Children Personal Accident & Medical Cover Now Includes Non-Member Children An up-date to Scout HQ Insurance Scouts HQ has extended its Personal Accident and Medical Expenses (PAME) insurance policy to include all non-member children. What does this mean for you? Who are non-member children? Non-member children are those under 18 who are not officially part of the Scouts but attend or participate in weekly meetings or events, often accompanying parents or other adults. For Scout counties: You’ll no longer need to arrange separate insurance for non-member children or crèches operated by Scout groups. This change will save you both time and money. For those running meetings or activities: You’ll no longer need to check with your county about insurance coverage for non-member children. This extended coverage is automatic, ensuring all groups are protected. What hasn’t changed? For non-member adults, helpers, supporters, instructors, or retired members connected to your group, you’ll still need to arrange separate PAME cover. Unity offers this at £52 annually for up to 25 helpers. Also, if your group employs staff, Employers’ Liability cover is required by law. Unity can help arrange this insurance for you. Lastly, while this insurance provides added peace of mind, you’re still responsible for conducting risk assessments for all areas and activities. For guidance, visit www.scouts.org.uk/riskassessment.
